Speakers Bureau
In addition to providing basic HIV 101 presentations, HARC enlists the help of a panel of community speakers personally living with or directly affected by HIV.
Why have a personal speaker share their story?
So often in today’s society when we speak about HIV, we speak in terms of statistics and forget the faces that make up the epidemic. Having someone share their story engages the audiences and teaches us that, behind the millions of people living with the disease worldwide, every individual offers a unique story that defies stereotypes, transcends categorization, and reminds us that we are all human.
Is having an HIV positive speaker appropriate for my organization?
Speakers provide their personal stories about living with HIV and provide basic questions on the disease. Please note they are not medical professionals and aren’t tasked to provide highly technical information.
How much time is required to arrange for a speaker?
We request that you allow at least two weeks so we can contact the speaker and give them the location, time, and date of the event.
Can I request a specific type of speaker?
We are aware of the importance of having a good fit for your audience. Currently we are limited in the availability and scope of speakers we may be able to provide. Recruitment efforts are being made to build our speaker’s base. Knowing your group’s needs will better help us in assessing our ability to fill your request.
Is there a presentation fee associated with the speaker?
A minimum donation of $30.00 is greatly appreciated, however, if this amount isn’t possible, any amount would be appreciated.
We ask that community organizations give this $30.00 directly to the speaker following the conclusion of the presentation.
How do I become a speaker?
