Outreach Services

The best place to reach people is where they are at- meaning during the course of the day or night; on the street or at the bar; at the café or the bookstore. HARC staff conducts outreach in a variety of locations to come into contact with people during real life situations where they may soon be putting themselves at risk. Having condoms and a person to talk to at the bar may turn an unexpected sexual encounter into a safer one

Van/Street Outreach Services

HARC’s outreach van is staffed by trained outreach educators who can provide HIV/AIDS risk reduction education, safer sex materials, harm reduction services, HIV counseling and testing, and referrals other needed services and resources.

Bar Outreach Services

This form of outreach is especially designed for bars or nightclubs patronized by men who have sex with men (MSM). HARC’s Prevention staff and trained volunteers, interact with the patrons and promote risk reduction and HIV testing. Safer sex materials are also distributed.

The outreach takes place every Friday night at the Necto, in downtown Ann Arbor, between the hours of 9pm to 2am. The Aut Bar in Kerrytown, Ann Arbor on the first and third Tuesday, the second and fourth Thursday and last Friday of each, between the hours of 9pm to 11pm.

Community Outreach

Throughout the year, especially around National Test Day events, HARC receives requests to set-up and man display tables for our agency. You can find our display tables at such events as pride,  heritage festivals and health fairs. These display events allow HARC the opportunity to promote its services and build community collaboration.
