Mission and History
HIV/AIDS Resource Center (HARC) is a non-profit organization founded in 1986 by a group of volunteers to provide HIV/AIDS related services to the people of Jackson, Lenawee, Livingston, and Washtenaw Counties. HARC’s success in responding to the HIV/AIDS community is in its ability to be innovative in the services it provides to ensure that it continues to meet the needs of the changing epidemic and those it affects. HARC is dedicated to providing HIV/AIDS related services to our community through compassionate direct care, prevention and outreach activities.
HARC’s mission is to provide HIV related services to the community through compassionate direct care, prevention and outreach activities.
The past decade has seen HARC develop into a leading HIV/AIDS service provider in our state. The AIDS epidemic has changed dramatically since it first struck in the early 1980’s. HIV/AIDS is not selective in its infection, but thanks to the breakthroughs in medication, infected individuals are living full lives for many years. There is still no cure, however, and HIV/AIDS is a complex disease and requires expensive and intense treatment. Thus the need for access to HIV/AIDS services and prevention has never been greater. HARC is here to provide compassionate care to those infected and affected by this epidemic.
